Happy new year all!

For those of you with kids, you’ll know that January is a very busy month of the year. School is back in less than a month. There’s uniforms and books to organise – to top it all off, you’ll probably need to look at new school shoes. Finding the right school shoes can be a difficult task. Just the thought of battling Chermside with many other parents and kids may be stressful enough… Let us put you at ease with 3 key pointers when buying new school shoes.

1. Ensure that your child has roughly 1cm from their largest toe on both feet. Either feel for this through the top of the shoe, or take out the innersole and get your child to stand on it. Many stores will measure their feet, but don’t take this size as gospel. Each brand fits differently, meaning you may be different sizes in different brands.

2. Ensure your child tests out the shoes in store. We all know that kids don’t only walk in their shoes… Kids like to run, skip, jump and anything else in between! When appropriate, ensure your child properly tests out the shoes to ensure there is no rubbing, slipping or excessive stiffness that they may not discover otherwise.

3. Purchase a quality and reputable brand. There are many brands out there, but from experience we often see brands for school shoes such as Scobi, Ascent and Clarks being the most consistent and durable. They also come orthotic-friendly, meaning they are easier to work with if your children requires orthotics.
